Overall, the look-and-feel of the app has been vastly improved to look like something that fits in on Apple’s new operating i OS 8…or i OS 7, for that matter.
While it may not be the most beautiful app on your i Phone or i Pad, it’s such a dramatic improvement over the old interface that it’s hard not to be giddy about the changes.
If you’re like me, you have a Goodreads account and occasionally use it to update your list of books that you’ve read—but haven’t used it for much else.
Goodreads Community Manager Patrick Brown offered up this guest post to me on how authors can use Goodreads to their benefit (and I’m testing it out myself).
In December 2007, the site had over 650,000 members In 2011, Goodreads acquired Discovereads, a book recommendation engine that employs "machine learning algorithms to analyze which books people might like, based on books they've liked in the past and books that people with similar tastes have liked." After a user has rated 20 books on its five-star scale, the site will begin making recommendations.
Amazon says users have until then to get their stuff and get out, figuratively speaking.
Lots of Shelfari members are understandably upset with the decision to close the community for good.
To prepare Shelfari members for the move, Amazon posted on a prominent announcement stating, "IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Shelfari is merging with Goodreads.
Learn More", along with two months to migrate their Shelfari content to Goodreads.
